Sleep on Saturday has been chastised by long sleep experts and moms - but says a new study can reduce your risk of habitual death.

Researchers at the University of Stockholm found that adult men who entered the five-hour sleep each night increased the risk of death. However, people who slept only for five hours a week did not increase the risk of their mortality in the night of the weekend, for nine hours a night.

The study was published by the Sleep Researchers Journal, which saw the details of sleep habits collected from over 43,000 by age 65. Later, after 13 years of death records, they were given the opportunity to determine how they attacked sleeping habits. Of course, other factors like education, body mass index and smoking can take your life for years, so they apply to those people too. What is their end? "Long weekend sleep can shorten the short weekend sleep."

The findings of the study may appear to be a surprise because sleeping experts are advised to try to "sleep" over the weekend. Last year sleeping scientist Matthew Walker said NPR sleep is not like a bank.

"If you want to sleep a full night, then you have to give all the sleep that you want one night, and you're lost," he said.

According to this new study


"The end result of a short (weekday) sleep risk is not a risk factor if the result is combined with medium or long weekend sleep," researchers wrote. "This may be compensated by the weekend sleepy weekend, which says it has the implications of death."

Of course, enough sleep every night: the group found that people who slept for six or seven hours did not increase the risk of mortality.
